Public Speaking
What is Coaching in Public Speaking and Performance Confidence?
Coaching is a guided experience in which one’s strengths and vulnerabilities (both being elemental for self-development) are invited to emerge. Coaching will drive these strengths and vulnerabilities to show themselves in the open, to act as actual tools for empowerment. Engaging in a session with a coach is an experience-based and autonomous mode of learning, and to find a coach you really connect with can be a true gift.
Coaching is a process in which a coach and a client work together to improve the client’s performance. Coaching acts on the ‘present moment’ and does not engage with one’s past. In this model of coaching, the coach, fundamentally, is there to facilitate development, to guide one’s improvement in public performance.
What can I expect from Coaching?
The standard mode of coaching happens through a one-to-one session with the coach. The first session will be a gentle conversation about what blocks a client might be experiencing with regards to speaking, presenting or being in public, both in a live mode and also within online environments.
Apart from live one-to-one sessions, coaching can happen through online sessions, and towards group training, team training, as well as team building purposes.
Why would I opt for Coaching?
Reasons to opt for coaching might be the fear of speaking in public events such as conferences, symposia, job interviews, board and business meetings, court cases, on TV or radio programmes, on online calls or other virtual environments, at university presentations, or even day to day encounters with others.
What Coaching is Not.
It is important to understand and acknowledge that coaching does not constitute therapy. The objective of coaching is not to heal a client. In this instance of coaching, the objective is to guide the client to optimal public presentation and confidence. In the instance where the process to such an objective is being blocked by conditions that need medical intervention, the client might also want to engage the service of the required professional, such as a psychologist or a psychotherapist.
